KHTY TV and News - In an expected change, charges against the innocent man beaten up in his own home by Edmonton City Police (EPS) in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, have been withdrawn. Investigation into police actions and mental health workers under way.
On April 8, 2025, charges against Ben Hardy-Thomas were withdrawn by Edmonton City Police (EPS) in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. After three complaints, including a scathing email to the Crown Prosecution Office, the alleged falsified charges made by Constable Robert Brown with support from another attending cop, and a mental health nurse, were dropped, and a formal investigation into police actions continue. Results aren't expected for at least another thirty-seven days. However, the damage to Mr. Hardy-Thomas' teeth and face are permanent.

In the abusive attack, the police allegedly used a set of handcuffs as knuckle dusters, with one of the cops using this to punch Mr. Thomas in the mouth and face. One of his bottom front teeth is broken in half and gives him terrible pain. Two of his upper teeth have been moved out of place, down further than the other teeth. The risk of abscess and loss of these teeth is high. He will be seeking legal redress and compensation to cover the trauma, the injuries, the abuse, and other matters, but most importantly to pay for the cost of replacing those teeth. Alberta's Health Card plan no longer covers emergency dental matters.
Mr. Thomas' family are especially distressed at the continued abuse and discrimination against him and themselves. He lives with his sister, Joanna Ouimet, and her husband, an autistic and mentally man with a history of violence. His family expressed their concerns to investigators that had they got the right man, Mrs. Ouimet's husband, the chances are that her husband would have become overwhelmed and had a violent meltdown. Mr. Ouimet could have died. Mr. Ouimet's alleged dysfunctional and increasingly hostile father and sister, believe that the victim was to blame and needs to leave the Ouimet home because it causes Mr. Ouimet stress. The victim has been helping Mr. and Mrs. Ouimet with their mental health issues/learning life skills, and enjoying their company. The victim believes that Mr. Ouimet's mental health is made worse by the alleged unfounded and unwarranted delusions/conspiracy ideations that Mr. Ouimet's sister and father have about his family and himself. However, as with many things in Canada, mental health and crimes aren't handled according to normal Western laws. Instead, victims and their families are abused. Acts of criminal harassment aren't dealt with.
To avoid further alleged aggression and delusions from Mr. Ouimet's sister recently, against his mother-in-law, the victim's mother has agreed with Times of Israel to remove the article from the Times of Israel Blogs, not because of the content, but as the Blogs are not designed for news. It's not the first time Mr. Ouimet's family has attacked Mr. Thomas' family. Threats of physical harm against Mr. Ouimet's mother-in-law were made by his maternal aunt from British Columbia, Canada. It made it clear that interactions with the Ouimet family is impossible. The victim tried to build bridges the differences, but to no avail. Mr. Thomas' mother spent over a decade trying, but it's become obvious some habits will never change.
Ben Thomas is saving for a journalistic trip to Ukraine. Despite his scars, physically and mentally, he is a strong man, and won't let the police attack deter him. He is saving for his trip and will be providing news that will bring the true tragedy of the Ukraine war with Russia back into the hearts and minds of fellow Canadians and the world.

Ben Thomas, his sister, and mother will be interviewed by a detective assigned to the investigation. Both Ben Thomas and his family hope that this will finally put a stop to decades of unwarranted police bullying and the Ouimet family's alleged attacks. Mr. Ouimet's sister and father allegedly blame Ben for the attack on himself by the police. Mr. Ouimet's family allegedly continue to brush his serious behavioral and mental health issues under the rug. Allegedly, they told Mr. Ouimet to keep away from the victim's family, despite only having communicated a handful of times in a decade, mainly online. These brief interactions were amicable, contrary to the alleged false beliefs of Mr. Ouimet's sister and father.
